ABOUT LAB TESTING
A Sethi Labs medical assistant or phlebotomist will gently draw the necessary amount of blood or collect any other appropriate biological specimen needed for the specific test, label it appropriately, complete needed paperwork or chain-of-custody documentation, and send it to our accredited/certified laboratory partner for analysis. Test results will be delivered back to the location where the test was purchased, and if you request, they will contact you to advise your test results are ready for pick-up or other approved method of delivery. Most test results are available within 24 – 72 business hours after specimen collection.
Sethi Labs empowers you to Take Control of Your Health. Many illnesses and diseases can be identified and prevented by managing your healthcare proactively, and working with your physician when test results are out of the normal range. Knowing the results of your tests can help you make educated decisions that can ultimately improve the quality of your life. Depending on the type of test, test results can also answer social questions, from paternity to drug abuse, and allow tested parties to better evaluate their next decision steps.
The results are in an easy‐to‐read format that clearly states if the test is within the normal range, positive or negative; or in matters of family relationship DNA testing, the statistical probability of relationship. You are encouraged to share your test results with your physician if the results are not within the normal range.
No. Sethi Labs makes every effort to keep our customers satisfied while providing excellent service in delivering the tests you have requested. Once the test has been collected and sent to the laboratory, we will be unable to provide you with a refund. A draw center is a location where a test is ordered, the specimen is collected, proper paperwork completed, then sent to the appropriate laboratory testing. Sethi Labs is a draw center.
Sethi Labs follows all HIPAA guidelines and state regulations regarding distribution of test results. You can choose to have your test results mailed, faxed or come by to pick them up. Written consent is required to provide a copy of your test results to any party other than you. Confidentiality and discretion are of the utmost importance to Sethi Labs.
Sethi Labs is able to e-mail certain lab test results to our customers. We must follow all HIPAA guidelines and state regulations regarding distribution of test results. All release of records must have a signed authorization from the consenting individual before results are released in any matter. Tests such as HIV are not allowed to be sent via e-mail or fax due to federal regulations and need to be picked up in person.
No appointment is necessary. However, scheduling an appointment can be beneficial. The medical assistant will have all the proper supplies and documents ready and waiting for your visit; thereby, reducing any wait time to get you back to your daily activities quickly. You can easily find a store location in your community, call or schedule an appointment online.
We know your time is valuable. Most of our customers are in and out in 15 minutes or less, unless a specialized test is ordered where specimens must be collected within specific time ranges or in cases where the donor is unable to provide a specimen at the time of collection, such as during a urine drug test.
No. Each of our store locations has a physician that oversees the testing performed and test results. However, your physician can send you with a formal order for lab tests and we’ll be happy to fulfill that also.
Most test results will be given to you within an average of 24 – 72 hours. However, depending upon the specific test you order it may take additional time. To see the turnaround time for specific tests, please use our Test Finder for more detailed information.
If you have any questions regarding the details, application or components of a test, feel free to ask the staff person at the location where the test was ordered. SEXUAL WELLNESS
Yes. Even if you use condoms, there is a chance of getting STDs, such as herpes. This is because some STDs can affect other areas of the genitals besides where the condom covers.
Even though you have tested negative, you may still need to be tested again in the future. Depending on the STD, antibodies or infections have a window of time that they may not show up in your blood or urine sample. If you suspect exposure and have a negative test, it is recommended you be retested in 6 weeks. If you are leading a lifestyle that will put you in possible transmission contact with infected people, it’s suggested that you be tested routinely.
PATERNITY ISSUES
Any participant in a DNA test, or legal guardian of a participant have rights to a copy of the test results unless they relinquish those rights and it’s documented on the chain-of-custody form at the time of collection, and all parties acknowledge and sign that they agree.
No. In order for a paternity test to be accepted as legal evidence, the alleged father will need to provide formal identification and complete his portion of the required chain-of-custody documentation.
Paternity and DNA tests are 100% accurate. The results of paternity tests are statistical calculations, and will be reflected as a probability of paternity, or a probability of relatedness, depending on the type of family relationship you are trying to establish. Our DNA testing partner is accredited by the most recognized and accepted governing agencies, so you can trust the quality of your test results.
No, we do not offer people locator services. However, we can direct you to some of the local private investigators we work with if you wish to try and find him. Ask your local store’s medical assistant for a referral.
Yes. Sethi Labs offers a prenatal paternity test with no risk to the baby. It involves a simple blood draw from both the mother and alleged father. Click here to learn more, or contact your local store’s medical assistant for additional details.
DRUGS & ALCOHOL
Rapid screenings done in our facility or at the laboratory use the same methodology, enzyme-linked immunoassay. The laboratory uses an automated process to perform the screens. If a lab-based screen is presumptive positive, it can then be immediately sent to confirmation testing. Lab-based drug screens also cover confirmations and medical review, if needed. Rapid drug screen specimens can also be sent to the laboratory for confirmation if the results are presumptive positive. An additional fee is then charged for this service. Medical review is also available for an additional fee.
Yes. Sethi Labs store locations offer DOT drug testing services. Personnel are DOT-qualified to collect the specimens needed to perform the test and our laboratory partners are SAMHSA certified as required by the DOT.
A drug screen is an initial test that screens for specific categories of drugs, and can be performed quickly with rapid drug testing kits. It cannot differentiate between individual drugs; therefore, a confirmation is highly recommended to confirm the screen findings. A drug test is a combination of an initial, lab-based drug screen with a confirmation if the screen is presumptive positive.
ACCESS & CONFIDENTIALITY
Sethi Labs is able to e-mail certain lab test results to our customers. We must follow all HIPAA guidelines and state regulations regarding distribution of test results. All release of records must have a signed authorization from the consenting individual before results are released in any matter. Tests such as HIV are not allowed to be sent via e-mail or fax due to federal regulations and need to be picked up in person.
Most lab tests can be ordered anonymously. If you choose to test anonymously, you will be required to provide a birth date and/or show your sales receipt to ensure the test results are provided to the correct tested party. If you choose to pay for the lab test by credit card (for security reasons); will use a test result as evidence in court (such as a paternity test); or taking a corporate drug screen, a valid ID is required.
Customer privacy is extremely important to Sethi Labs. All personnel are trained on HIPAA regulations and compliance, and follow these critical guidelines. Customers have the option of ordering a test anonymously when it is appropriate, and to choose which method to receive their lab test results (U.S. Mail, Fax, Pick Up). If a customer chooses to test anonymously, they will be required to provide a birth date and show a sales receipt for verification prior to receiving test results. Lab test results will not be distributed to any other party without formal written consent that authorizes us to provide test results to other individuals or your physician. Because Sethi Labs does not accept insurance, your results are not provided to your physician without your written consent, or a formal written doctor’s order for the lab tests. Sethi Labs does not submit your lab tests results to your personal medical record. However, you may provide the results to your physician if desired and at your discretion.
