Dr. Anthony Fauci told senators Tuesday some areas are putting the whole nation at risk
With about 40,000 new cases being reported a day, Fauci, the government’s leading infectious disease specialist, said he “wouldn’t be surprised when we go up to 100,000 per day if this doesn’t turn around.”
Infections are climbing mostly in areas of South and the West, and Fauci and other health specialists said if they would like to return to activities like going to college, Americans will need to begin key recommendations.
“We have got to get out the message that we’re all in this together,” by wearing masks in public and keeping from audiences, said Fauci, infectious disease chief at the National Institutes of Health.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans recommendations for local school systems, Director Robert Redfield said.
But in recommendations for schools the agency said for returning students, staff, and faculty, it will not advocate entry testing. The CDC said it was not clear if that sort of testing would decrease the spread of the coronavirus. It urged schools to concentrate on containing ailments and outbreaks.
